Clinton recruits her supporters to back Obama

Former presidential contender Hillary Rodham Clinton is stepping up her efforts to swing her disaffected supporters over to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, her former rival.

In an outreach titled "Hillary Sent Me," the New York senator invited her supporters Friday to get involved directly in Obama's campaign and donate to it. She urged them to travel to a specific battleground state each weekend, beginning with New Hampshire on Sept. 27, when she will be campaigning for Obama in Michigan.

"Today I am asking all of you to stand up, hit the road and spread the word that we must elect Barack Obama president and we must send a filibuster-proof majority to Congress," Clinton told supporters in a conference call Friday. "This is a call to action. This is a must-do. We all have a role. And there is not a moment to lose."

Clinton has already campaigned for Obama in Ohio, Florida, Nevada and New Mexico and raised about $5 million for his campaign.

McCain: "That's not country first, that's Obama first"

And the crowd goes wild, chanting "NObama! NObama!"

McCain, at a campaign stop in Blaine, Minnesota, accuses his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, of "gaming the system" and benefiting from the turmoil on Wall Street the past couple weeks. Check it out below.

Palin to meet with Afghan President

Oh lordy.

According to the Washington Post this morning, the GOP veep candidate will meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai next week in New York as the UN General Assembly gets underway.

I was trying to understand why this was making me so nervous, and then I remembered. If "I can see Russia from my front porch" Palin actually wins the veep spot, there will be a lot more of these kinds of meetings. Oh vey.

Bush: "This is a big problem"

President Bush makes remarks outside the White House following a meeting with the Colombia President, defending the government's bailout of Wall Street.

"My first instinct wasn't to lay out a huge governmental plan. My first instinct was to let the market work. Until I realized when being briefed by the experts how significant the problem has become. So I decided to act and act boldly."

"The systematic risk was significant and required a significant response...This is a big package because this is a big problem."

Just for LOLs

In times of economic woes, it helps to just let loose and break out into song. Jon Stewart and his minions have done a musical parody on the ridiculosity that is the singer/celebrity support of presidential contenders. Anotherwards, shut yo trap Babs!

McCain gaffe

Presidential contender John McCain sounds like he needs some sleep, if you ask me.

Sure, spanish is the common language over yonder in Spain, but that doesn't justify lumping them there folks and their leader José Zapatero together with the likes of Latin America's Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales. Check out his verbal diarrhea in the clip below:

I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. For some reason, I feel that the name Zapatero just didn't connect with McCain's ancient gray matter. C'mon, who really knows who the leader of Spain is? I didn't, until I heard about this whole brouhaha that you just know the Obama camp is gonna latch onto and milk mercilessly.

A bit of advice: Get some sleep, Mac.

Joe Biden's Catholic problem

Remember him? Democratic vice presidential nominee? Barack Obama's running mate? Part of the ol' boys club? Kinda boring?

Ya, that's the one. Well, turns out his pro-abortion views, or as I prefer to call them, pro-choice views, have gotten him into a bit of a kerfuffle with catholics, particular a few bishops.

The New York Times even decided to front page the issue earlier this week.

How'd it all start?

Well, the overshadowed VP pick took communion in his home parish last month. On September 2 the Bishop of Scranton, Pennsylvnia (a crucial swing state) banned him from communion in his diocese. Apparently, that's like some legit excommunication shiz goin' down.

So, a little religious bickering ain't nothin' to worry about, right? Ehh, as it were, at every presidential election in the past 30 years the Catholic vote has gone to the winning candidate, except for Al Gore in 2000.

Realistically, though, it's been said that a large majority of so-called catholics are protestant when it comes to birth control. Anotherwards, they use it.

Still, perhaps Sen. Biden ought to take up moose hunting, or involve himself in some kind of -gate, 'cause other than this little piece of news, nobody's heard a thing about the guy. And if all else fails, there's always time for an illegitimate love child somewhere down the line.

Hasselbeck leaving 'The View' for FOX News

Someone wants her! However, that someone is not so surprising. After all, it just goes to show FOX News will take any conservative twit whose credentials only amount to having an opinion.

After years of infighting with her left-wing View co-hosts, the McCain lovin' blonde has been offered an anchor spot at the McCain lovin' news network and she is seriously considering accepting the challenge.

"Elisabeth feels she can't win at The View, but she's been told by friends at FOX News that they'd find a spot for her without hesitation," said an unnamed source.

"Elisabeth is just as tired of the ladies at The View as they are of her! She feels she constantly has to defend herself," a show insider revealed to The National Enquirer this week. "Besides that, when she gets passionate about her opinions, the others make her look like she's hysterical. But when she doesn't talk enough, she's accused of pouting," says the source.

So, what's the former Survivor contestant to do? Go where you're wanted, of course! Even if it's just as disreputable as your last gig.

"They love Elisabeth at FOX, she gets high ratings whenever she appears on the network."

Bonnie Fuller offers her unsolicited advice

It's probably safe to presume that it is also oft-thought advice.

As number five on her listicle of things Barack Obama should do if he wants to win this presidential election:

"Finally! Dump Biden and Bring Back Hillary! New York Times columnist David Brooks, wrote very insightfully a couple of weeks ago that in this election, Weirdness Wins."

This is ridiculous. I half-agree, in that he should have picked Hil if he knew what was best for him, but IMO she ought to be Prez, not Veep. The incredulity of this comment for me is the thought that the presidential contenders in this race should be vying for our votes through "weirdness" tactics. I think that just completely underestimates the intelligence of the American people. We want people in Washington that have REAL credentials and qualification, not outward beauty, quirky characteristics or a contrived maverick image.

This is why I'm particularly irked at McCain's veep pick. It is an obvious affront on half the American population's intelligence.

So, sure, Biden may as well change his name to Blahden, but that doesn't mean Sen. Obama should shake things up by picking my girl Hillary. She doesn't need anyone's pity.

Bye Bye Olbermann

Not literally. But, the reigning king of MSNBC, Keith Olbermann, has been bested by the newest star of the leftist network, Rachel Maddow.

Maddow's new show beat Olbermann's Countdown in ratings by a count of 1.8 million to 1.63 million.

Not only did she trounce the notorious Bush hater but she wiped the floor with CNN's suspender-wearing Larry King.

Poor Olbermann. This blow will only serve as salt in the wounds of his latest stumble.

Hackers break into Palin's e-mail

Hackers broke into the Yahoo! e-mail account that Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin uses for official business (tisk, tisk) as Alaska's governor, revealing a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since Sen. McCain selected her as his running mate.

"This is a shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of law," the McCain camp said. "The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them."

The Men in Black contacted The Associated Press yesterday and asked for copies of the e-mails, which circulated widely on the Internet. The AP did not comply.

The intensity with which people are interested in this rising lipstick-wearing star is amazing, and scary!

Exclusive Palin Interview on Hannity and Colmes

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin took to a comfortable chair, yet again, to discuss those issues most important to the American people. As Sean Hannity gazed at her lovingly from a couple feet away, the Alaskan governor seemed much more at ease. This could either be due to more all-nighters next to a coffee pot studying or her knowledge beforehand that she is loved by those at FOX News. Click here to view the first three parts of the interview.

Obama targets McCain on Social Security

Andddd, let's talk about social security. Who can keep up with these?

No, no we can't.

Barack Obama approves this message

Another ad comin' atcha. You know you love 'em.

In an unannounced spot airing in Michigan, the Obama camp portrays McCain against alternative energies and in the pocket of the oil companies.

What's creepier: the McCain head flip-book or the helium-inhaling voiceover?

[Source: thepage.time.com]

Apparently McCain has had enough

"Enough is enough!" proclaims the latest McCain ad. ::Eye roll::

I'm not sure if he realizes this slogan would work wonders against his ticket. He's clearly going for the emphatic fed-up schtick, I mean, which politician doesn't? Anyway, take a gander ya'll.

[Source: huffingtonpost.com]

How many catch phrases can you spot?

Whoopee! Another ad employing platitudes to the brim! Not only do we get a dose of the original maverick, but our fears have now been assuaged by the new agent of change!

Polls portend McCain is more of the same

Poor guy. He can't seem to get away from that Bush fella in the big house.

Despite a vigorous effort to distance himself from the way his party has done business in Washington, Sen. John McCain is seen by voters as far less likely to bring change to Washington than Sen. Barack Obama. He is widely viewed as a "typical Republican" who would continue or expand President Bush's policies, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.

This is even after the "Palin effect." What's a maverick to do?

Try not to laugh

It's hard not to feel bad for presidential contender Barack Obama when he has hundreds of shambolic celebs touting their support of him. And it only adds fuel to the McCain camp fire that Sen. Obama is a "celebrity" himself.

Well, he's finally let it be known, he doesn't want none of that. And by that, I mean Miss Lindsay Lohan's support.

After the Mean Girls star's most recent blog entry announcing her support for Mr. Obama after berating Gov. Palin, Lohan offered to host a series of events for the senator in order to garner support among younger voters.

Proving his intelligence is genuine and not pseudo, the Obama camp sent the following word out:

"Lindsay is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us."

Paraphernalia polling

So, you know those hundred odd thousand polls that are conducted before the big day in November that try to give us a feel for who the next Oval Office occupant will be? No longer do we have to rely on those ever-fluctuating numbers!

According to the folks over at CafePress.com, it's all about the garb.

Yep. The "Obama is my Homeboy" T-shirts, the "Hockey Moms for McCain Palin" throw pillows or the "Hope" or "Nope" tees determine it all.

Could sales of such items predict who will be elected come Election Day? CafePress.com seems to think so.

Sales of its candidate-themed items have long tracked national polls, Amy Maniatis, vice president for marketing at the site, said. And the site is making it official now. It has started Spotlight Election 2008 as part of its CafePress Meter that tracks which candidates are outselling the others.

Mere weeks after the Republican National Convention, McCain-Palin items have caught up to their long-time Obama-Biden rivals. They are now neck and neck.

This requires action people! If nothing else does, THIS shouldn't sit well with you!

K, that's a little drastic. But either which way, hurry out and purchase your "Obama Mama" shirt today!

Gate's Iraq visit coincides with bombings

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates landed in Baghdad today to meet Iraqi officials and preside over Tuesday's change-of-command ceremony as Lt. Gen. Raymond T.  Odierno takes over from Gen. David H. Petraeus as the senior American officer in Iraq.

Mr. Gates' visit happened to coincide with what seems to be three explosions: one at a Ramadan feast in Diyala Province and two in central Baghdad that killed at least 32 people. Sad.

General Petraeus spoke before the blasts in Baghdad and Diyala citing the number of attacks a day was down to 25 from 180 at the height of the violence in June 2007.

Palin won't meet with 'Troopergate' investigator

At least, not until the whole scandal becomes a non-scandal, or gate-less as I like to call it.

A campaign spokesman says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin won't speak with an investigator hired by lawmakers to look into the firing of her public safety commissioner. Spokesman Ed O'Callaghan told a news conference that the hockey mom will not cooperate as long as the investigation "remains tainted." Remember ya'll, Mrs. Palin don't like to be put into uncomfortable situations, let's play nice.

The campaign insists the investigation has been hijacked by Democrats. Mmmmkay.

This is disturbing

Sadly, the photos below were taken by a "professional." Photographer Jill Greenberg, a shooter known for her efforts in retouching and Photoshop, was commissioned by The Atlantic to do a cover shoot for its October edition featuring the GOP presidential nom John McCain.

No, this is not the picture they're featuring on the cover, that can be seen at the end of this post. The photo just below has been featured on Greenberg's Web site along with a slew of other unflattering pictures she purposely took, not informing Sen. McCain of the harsh light she was casting on him and telling him to stand certain ways, unbeknownst to him, so she could later photoshop them into even more disgraceful and repulsive shots.

Below, is the photo featured on the cover, which while still not flattering, is at least somewhere in the professional realm. I don't know why I had such a visceral reaction to the above photos. I can understand disagreeing with someone's politics, lampooning them for political satire and comedy and ridiculing their policy stances through use of cartoons. But, I certainly won't understand, or applaud anyone, especially a self-proclaimed professional, for disgracefully and surreptitiously turning a photo shoot into their own personal vendetta. Disgusting.

Record donations month for Obama

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama raised $66 million in August, making it his best month in terms of election fundraising.

His previous record, of $55 million, was set in February.

The amount raised makes it likely Mr. Obama will have more to spend than his opponent John McCain in the final two months before Election Day.

This bodes well for the Obama camp, now that McCain has moved ahead in the polls.

Just for LOLs

The Wall Street Journal did the unthinkable! They acknowledged the impending threat of global warming. Say what? No, that can't be the WSJ.

Well, it was their fashion reporter Teri Agins who pulled the about-face for the rag. When one fashion-minded reader wrote in inquiring about wearing white after Labor Day, Agins thoughtfully responded:

"To be sure global warming has made it easier to comfortably wear thinner clothes in the winter. But pulling off seasonless looks boils down to getting the balance right -- choosing smart looks that make sense. A white linen suit won't work for Boston in November."

Once elected, Palin treads the line between business and personal

The New York Times just did an incredible piece that really sheds light on the GOP vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin. I think it is of paramount importance to learn all we can about this relatively unknown figure in politics before, god forbid, she is elected to office. But, I would say this about any relatively unknown figure in politics running in a national election. These queries really go beyond party lines for me, as they should for you, as well.

If you're one of the few who is not swayed by charisma, and would like to have an all-encompassing look into the background of this woman, then I urge you to read THIS ARTICLE. It's quite interesting. And yes, Sen. Obama is quite the charismatic pol, and The New York Times has unearthed the facts surrounding his meteoric rise, as well, back in the spring. I might also add that I urged people to read that piece as well.

51 days until Election Day, folks! Please, register to vote here, if you haven't already.
