Election Day

Today is the day. Today is the day we have been waiting for. It's a day some have been wishing would just be over with already. It's a day that I'm sure some don't want to come, afraid for the next step in history to take its course. But ultimately, it's a day that marks an unprecedented election season.

We have seen things occur that have never occurred before. More than just a black man running for president or the oldest man ever to vie for the Oval Office. We have seen the most money spent in a presidential campaign ever. We have seen two senators campaign against each other. We have seen the possibility of the first woman vice president (okay, so there was Ferraro). We have taken part in one of the most tumultuous, exciting and charged elections ever. We have been watching this for two years now.

Today is your chance to go out and put this to an end. Decide who is best suited to lead our country after the last eight years of misguided policies that have dragged our country to the gutter. Let's all take part and reclaim our status as a superpower in this world. Let's be proud of our country again.

Today will be written in history books and cemented in history as a new direction for the country. This is not a stretch. President Bush's approval ratings are at an all-time low. There is a reason for this. No matter which candidate is chosen, history will be made. Take part in history.

VOTE.

Just for LOLs

Umm, yeah. This is hilarious. In what is simply another faux-pas in that long line of faux-pas for Sarah Palin, the governor participated in a phone interview with French president, Nicolas Sarkozy - or so she thought.

The people on the other end of the line were actually two Canadian comedians, called The Masked Avengers, who have a regular show on Montreal radio station CKOI. The interview took four days for their people to set up.

If you ever listen to anything, you've got to listen to this. We wonder if the McCain camp is sweatin' or has simply given up on their VP nom. What we can't believe is that the Sarkozy impersonator congratulating Palin on her life's documentary "Nailin' Palin" didn't raise any eyebrows. Errrr, really?

Your SNL update

It's that time again. Instead of your usual Tina Fey as Sarah Palin skits, I've included some of my other favorites from last night's episode of Saturday Night Live. Check 'em out.

John McCain as John McCain with the honorable Tina Fey as moose hunter and hockey mom extraordinaire Sarah Palin.

John McCain as John 'The Maverick' McCain in this Weekend Update skit. I have to agree with him. I think he should opt for the Double Maverick strategy.

The View parody. Ohhh, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. So sad to watch, so easy to mock.

Ben Affleck as Keith Olbermann. Were it not for his few smirks that got the best of him, this performance was top notch! I was falling off my chair, sir.

Obama ads use GOP against McCain

All I can say is, ouch... and ouch. Watch Obama's latest ads below. The first, relies on McCain's frequently touted hero, because Reagan is just about the only thing Republicans have to be proud of. The second, well, Miss Alaska provided that material herself.

Another annoying, sometimes cute, but important ad.

Wisconsin flyer capitalizes on fear of black power

Are you [expletive] kidding me???

Distributed throughout the very white Wausau, Wisconsin, the above flyer, which falsely bears the logo of the Obama campaign, asks voters to support Barack Hussein Obama II (still using that one, huh?). This little piece of faux-leftist black propaganda attempts to scare people off with the promise that a vote for Obama is also a vote for, oh no, black empowerment!

C'mon people. Why do we have to resort to this?

Feds charge two with plot against Obama

Sad news today. Two white supremacists allegedly plotted to go on a national killing spree, shooting and decapitating black people and ultimately targeting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, federal authorities said today.

In all, the two men whom officials describe as neo-Nazi skinheads planned to kill 88 people - 14 by beheading, according to documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

Apparently, the numbers 14 and 88 refer to a 14-word phrase attributed to an imprisoned white supremacist: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children" and to the eighth letter of the alphabet, H. Two "8"s or "H"s stand for "Heil Hitler."

The spree, which initially targeted an unidentified predominantly African-American school, was to end with the two men driving toward Obama, "shooting at him from the windows," the court documents show.

"Both individuals stated they would dress in all white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt," the court complaint states. "Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were killing to die during this attempt."

The picture above, was obtained from Daniel Cowart's MySpace page. Coward, 20, of Bells Tenn., is one of the persons arrested today for planning the assassination.

I cannot express enough how sad and disconcerting this news is to me. I've tried and tried to possibly understand one iota the mentality one would need to feel this kind of hate and I cannot muster it in the least.

I'm concerned for Sen. Obama if he were to be elected president because this surely will not be the last attempt to end his life, and I am also disconcerted at the fact that these two supremacists were going to target a school full of innocent children, for goodness sakes.

My hope is that people never become desensitized to this kind of news. We should continue to do all we can to squash this kind of lingering hate in America and elsewhere. It's not only disturbing but in my opinion, puts our country to shame.
