This is disturbing

Sadly, the photos below were taken by a "professional." Photographer Jill Greenberg, a shooter known for her efforts in retouching and Photoshop, was commissioned by The Atlantic to do a cover shoot for its October edition featuring the GOP presidential nom John McCain.

No, this is not the picture they're featuring on the cover, that can be seen at the end of this post. The photo just below has been featured on Greenberg's Web site along with a slew of other unflattering pictures she purposely took, not informing Sen. McCain of the harsh light she was casting on him and telling him to stand certain ways, unbeknownst to him, so she could later photoshop them into even more disgraceful and repulsive shots.

Below, is the photo featured on the cover, which while still not flattering, is at least somewhere in the professional realm. I don't know why I had such a visceral reaction to the above photos. I can understand disagreeing with someone's politics, lampooning them for political satire and comedy and ridiculing their policy stances through use of cartoons. But, I certainly won't understand, or applaud anyone, especially a self-proclaimed professional, for disgracefully and surreptitiously turning a photo shoot into their own personal vendetta. Disgusting.

Record donations month for Obama

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama raised $66 million in August, making it his best month in terms of election fundraising.

His previous record, of $55 million, was set in February.

The amount raised makes it likely Mr. Obama will have more to spend than his opponent John McCain in the final two months before Election Day.

This bodes well for the Obama camp, now that McCain has moved ahead in the polls.

Just for LOLs

The Wall Street Journal did the unthinkable! They acknowledged the impending threat of global warming. Say what? No, that can't be the WSJ.

Well, it was their fashion reporter Teri Agins who pulled the about-face for the rag. When one fashion-minded reader wrote in inquiring about wearing white after Labor Day, Agins thoughtfully responded:

"To be sure global warming has made it easier to comfortably wear thinner clothes in the winter. But pulling off seasonless looks boils down to getting the balance right -- choosing smart looks that make sense. A white linen suit won't work for Boston in November."

Once elected, Palin treads the line between business and personal

The New York Times just did an incredible piece that really sheds light on the GOP vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin. I think it is of paramount importance to learn all we can about this relatively unknown figure in politics before, god forbid, she is elected to office. But, I would say this about any relatively unknown figure in politics running in a national election. These queries really go beyond party lines for me, as they should for you, as well.

If you're one of the few who is not swayed by charisma, and would like to have an all-encompassing look into the background of this woman, then I urge you to read THIS ARTICLE. It's quite interesting. And yes, Sen. Obama is quite the charismatic pol, and The New York Times has unearthed the facts surrounding his meteoric rise, as well, back in the spring. I might also add that I urged people to read that piece as well.

51 days until Election Day, folks! Please, register to vote here, if you haven't already.
